A cement mill is the equipment that used to grind the hard, nodular clinker from the cement kiln into the fine grey powder, that is, cement. Most cement is currently ground in ball mills.

Cement clinker is usually ground by using a cement ball mill. This is a large rotating mill containing grinding media - normally steel balls. As the mill rotates, the motion of the balls grinds the clinker. The mill rotates approximately once every couple of seconds.

Working Principle of Cement Mill

As the mill rotates, steel balls work to grind the clinker. The mill rotates approximately once every couple of seconds.
The grinding system uses either 'open circuit' or 'closed circuit'. In an open circuit system, the feed rate of clinker is adjusted to achieve the desired fineness of the product. In a closed circuit system, coarse particles are separated from the finer ones and returned for further grinding.
When final products reach the fineness standard, they are discharged out of the mill.
